Key sabbatical responsibilities
Represent students Ø Represent individual students, referring to Advice Centre where appropriate Be a member of the Executive Committee Ø Attend induction and relevant training Communicate with students and promote UBSU Ø Be easily contactable by students on all main campuses Key portfolio responsibilities
Representation Ø Represent students at the Board of Governors Ø Represent students at the Marketing and Communication Board of Governors Ø Represent students at Academic Board Ø Represent students at Teaching Quality and Standards Ø Sit on the panel for Academic Offences Committee Ø Attend registration review meeting Leadership within UBSU Ø Coordinate the development and monitoring of UBSU’s Vision and Strategic plan Constitutional responsibilities Ø Act as the main interpreter of the Constitution University Liaison Ø Act as the primary spokesperson and representative for UBSU
Ø Represent students to the University and local community
Ø Attend University Liaison Meeting and Student Consultative Committee
Ø Complete all reporting requirements – to students, the University and outside bodies – relevant to the Officer’s areas of responsibility
Ø Be a trustee of UBSU
Ø Attend Executive meeting monthly and Student Officers’ Committee at both campuses
Ø Lead a priority campaign as identified by the Exec
Ø Work to implement UBSU’s strategic plan
Ø Meet monthly with General Manager to review progress
Ø Comply with UBSU policies as they relate to being an employee of UBSU, including those contained in the Staff and Health & Safety handbooks
Ø Spend time talking to students on the different campuses
Ø Commit to surveying students through Question of the Week and the Annual Student Survey
Ø Act as mentor for designated student officers
Ø Attend Student Representative Councils (SRC), Campus Student Representative Councils (CSRC) and Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Ø Encourage student participation in UBSU activity
Ø Increase numbers of candidates and voters for by- and general elections
Ø Work flexible hours as required to fulfil responsibilities
Ø Work closely with the General Manager to provide clear leadership to the organisation
Ø Chair the Executive committee
Ø Chair the UBSU Finance committee
Ø Coordinate the priority change campaigns for UBSU
Ø Be aware of all major activities, development and communications that take place within UBSU
Ø Respond to unforeseen issues as necessary
Ø Be familiar with the job descriptions of all officers to ensure effective delegation
Ø Work with VP Democracy and Diversity to develop and implement the constitution and policies
Ø Sign agreements, contracts and other instructions on behalf of UBSU
Ø Manage complaints from UBSU Officers, students and staff
Ø Be aware of legislation which affects UBSU and coordinate appropriate response
Ø Create and develop ways to promote the reputation of UBSU
Ø Organise University Meet-and-Greet in Bedford and Luton at the beginning of the year
