Represent students

Ø    Represent individual students, referring to Advice Centre where appropriate
Ø    Represent students to the University and local community
Ø    Attend University Liaison Meeting and Student Consultative Committee
Ø    Complete all reporting requirements – to students, the University and outside bodies – relevant to the Officer’s areas of responsibility

Be a member of the Executive Committee

Ø    Attend induction and relevant training
Ø    Be a trustee of UBSU
Ø    Attend Executive meeting monthly and Student Officers’ Committee at both campuses
Ø    Lead a priority campaign as identified by the Exec
Ø    Work to implement UBSU’s strategic plan
Ø    Meet monthly with General Manager to review progress
Ø    Comply with UBSU policies as they relate to being an employee of UBSU, including those contained in the Staff and Health & Safety handbooks

Communicate with students and promote the Union

Ø    Be easily contactable by students on all main campuses
Ø    Spend time talking to students on the different campuses
Ø    Commit to surveying students through Question of the Week and the Annual Student Survey
Ø    Act as mentor for designated student officers
Ø    Attend Student Representative Councils (SRC), Campus Student Representative Councils (CSRC) and Annual General Meeting
Ø    Encourage student participation in UBSU activity
Ø    Increase numbers of candidates and voters for by- and general elections
Ø    Work flexible hours as required to fulfil responsibilities

Oversee and develop UBSU’s democratic structures

Ø       Organise, promote and chair the AGM, SRC and CSRC
Ø       Increase number of motions submitted by students to the ASM, SRC, and CSRC
Ø       Increase accessibility of democratic processes e.g. by publishing a 'UBSU for Dummies'
Ø       Ensure that democratic processes are followed across all campuses
Ø       Ensure necessary policies are in place and up-to-date
Ø       Lead a yearly review of the Constitution
Ø       Ensure minutes of democratic meetings are placed on UBSU website within 2 weeks

Increase engagement of diverse groups of students with UBSU

Ø       Identify under-represented student groups and develop strategy to better represent them
Ø       Chair the Diversity Committee and lead Annual Diversity Week
Ø       Recruit and organise a diverse team of Freshers' Angels for Luton and Bedford
Ø       Represent students on Equality and Diversity issues
Ø       Sit on the University's Equality and Diversity committee
Ø       Ensure student participation in University Equality Forums

Ensure support and oversight of Student Officers

Ø       Chair Officer's Committee
Ø       Liaise with the General Manager to ensure each student officer has an appropriate mentor
Ø       Organise training for student officers after the summer break and following by-elections
Ø       Ensure student officers go to relevant NUS training and conferences

Develop UBSU’s link with NUS

Ø       Develop link with NUS regional officer
Ø       Ensure that UBSU submits motions for NUS conferences
Ø       Link UBSU to appropriate NUS campaigns
Ø       Book delegates on to NUS training and conferences

National Student Survey

Ø       Support the University campaign to encourage participation in the annual NSS
